A current project ‘on-the-boards’ is an outdoor event space at Anne Amie Vineyards, a picturesque site located outside of Carleton, Oregon. Perched atop a hill, with some amazing views of the vineyard and surrounding Willamette Valley landscape. The flexible space needed to be accessible, handle some larger crowds, and direct views away from views of equipment and service areas (as it is a successful working property!). The other issue was a significant grade change from the existing patio to the open space, so grading consisted of a flat terrace and more subtle grass steps that move down the slope.
The resulting area provides space for a large or medium sized gathering that has improved accessibility, lighting, and a number of simple moves to integrate with the existing building, target views to existing vistas, provide zones for special activities (fire pit, hammocks, and shaded seating). The rendering was completed to show a snapshot of the final plan in use.
We are currently working on documentation of the design, and construction is slated for the next couple of months – and should be up and running for wine, bonfire, and a number of events throughout the summer. Come for the wine, stay for the space!
